Scott Adams will “Blog Less”

The creator of Dilbert wrote a shocking post this morning that read as though either a) he’s badly hung over, or b) his wife gave him an ultimatum. As the writer of the most entertaining blog I’ve ever read in my whole entire life, I would never expect Scott to give up, especially for the lame-ass reasons he lists in the lame-ass titled post “Going Forward”.

  1. Advertising dollars: I can’t imagine expecting to make money from writing in a blog, but if time=money and nothing else, then so be it.
  2. Compiling the best posts into a book: Who publishes a blog in book form? Technology has come too far to allow you to stick it back in the 80s.
  3. Growing the audience for Dilbert: I do not believe for a moment that readership of Dilbert has shrunk as a result of Scott’s controversial blog posts. I, for one, have recommended Scott’s blog to many people, who as a result, began reading the comic as well. He’s been complaining for a long time about comment-makers who misunderstand his sarcasm, and I have actively searched for these, expecting to be entertained by others’ idiocy, but to no avail. I think the real opportunity for capitalization is through the very comments where Scott sees so much trouble. Misperception is funny, and so is Scott’s blog. Why can’t these two things just get along?
  4. Artistic satisfaction: This is the only reason that Scott will continue blogging so thank goodness for it. But why, oh why, will it be less controversial in the future? I guess the most important readers to Scott are the ones that continue to annoy him. To say the least, I am not impressed.
