Happy Birthday, Dad
October 1st, 2008 by Honey
Happy birthday, old man. You sure are old, aren’t you? I’m glad you’re still around, though, and I hope you have many years ahead of you and that you find many simple joys in your day to days. I know that the drama and the responsibility can be frustrating. I hope you have some tinkering to do to keep you busy and happy.
I miss you sometimes and wish you lived closer so I could come over to your house and bug you once in a while. I miss your lectures about life, obligation and etiquette. I miss hearing the shuffle of your feet and the funny sounds you make to let off steam. I miss the simple act of sitting with you on the couch watching America’s Funniest Home Videos. I miss hearing your uncontrollable laughter, the laugh I haven’t heard in many years, only triggered by old Pink Panther movies. When I think of you doubled over, going “HEE HEE HEE” with your entire body, I can’t help but smile and feel a little sad at the same time.
I know I’ve said this all before, but I want you to know that I think you are a great dad and I love you very much.
I hope you find tons of rare coinage on your metal detecting adventures this year.
Love,
Your kid
